NanoString Technologies is a privately held life sciences company marketing a complete solution for detecting and counting large sets of target molecules in biological samples. The company's products are based on a novel digital molecular barcoding technology invented at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle under the direction of Dr. Leroy Hood. NanoString was founded in 2003 with an exclusive license to develop and market the technology. NanoString developed the technology into the nCounter™ Analysis System and began international sales operations in 2008.
The nCounter Analysis System enables a wide variety of basic research and translational medicine applications, including biomarker discovery and validation. NanoString is also developing the technology for use in molecular diagnostics. NanoString has offices in Seattle, WA and San Mateo, CA.
